A Frightfully Good Time!

Pack up the family for an evening out! Drive by several of the spookiest homes in the Fox Valley area, and admire the ghoulish yard displays of St. Charles’ finest home haunters. View displays from either your vehicle or the sidewalk. 

Homes are best viewed from dusk until 10pm beginning October 13 through Halloween night.

Escape the Mansion: Director Sven's Theater

LOCATION:   Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Rd., Geneva

DATE:  October 14   1pm - 9pm

DETAILS:  Escape the Mansion is an escape room-style event that pits groups of 10 people against the clock to see if they can solve a series of challenges, clues, hidden passwords, and more before time runs out. For one night only, the second floor of the Stephen Persinger Recreation Center is transformed into the fictitious Madam Klara’s Mansion, an estate built in 1799 which has been rumored to be haunted and filled with dark magic. Participants will be given a tour of the mansion, featuring a newly discovered room of the building: Director Sven’s Theater!

Registration opens here on Aug. 8 (NR Aug. 15)
Tickets are $10 ($15 NR)
– You must register for a timeslot.
– Max participants per timeslot is 10 people.
– Other groups may register with you for your time slot (up to 10 total per slot).
– Clues are of varying difficulty, recommended for older children and adults, but can be for 6+ with parent help.


Escape Viewing Party
Celebrate your group’s escape (or demise) and watch other groups via livestream at the event’s post-party, located in the Persinger Center’s gymnasium.
– Raffle prizes and games will take place throughout the evening.
– Pizza, soda, and more will be available for purchase!
– Party intended for groups who have participated in the escape room. Those who have yet to participate will not be granted entry in the party until their escape attempt.

A Nightmare at West Main

LOCATION:  West Main Community And Bark Park, 40W101 Main St, Batavia, IL

DATE:   Fridays, October 13 & 20 | 7pm - 9pm

DETAILS:   The ghosts are coming out to play in the forest at West Main Community Park. Join us for a haunted hike through our spooky trails. Evil lurks in the forest, so enter if you dare! This event is not suitable for kids younger than 10 years old. Every person needs to be registered.  

FEE:  Advanced tickets can be purchased through Oct. 12 for $10 per ticket. Admission is $12 day-of.


Massacre Haunted House

Evil Intentions Haunted House

LOCATION:  900 Grace Street, Elgin

DETAILS:  Located in Elgin’s industrial section stands the abandoned home of Elgin Casket Company. This once proud building has been witness to a murder, grisly discoveries, cult activities, and unexplained occurrences, and a dark legacy has emerged from its sordid history.  Be terrorized at this multi-level 55,000 square foot paranormal hot spot.

Nightmare on Chicago Street

LOCATION:  Chicago Street, Elgin, IL (Between Grove and Villa St.)

DETAILS:  For 9 years, the Zombie Defense Initiative has given citizens an experience that they could find nowhere else. For the past 2 years, the safest zone was at home. This year, more than ever, we need to have a happening that will unite citizens looking for escape. ​ Some of the businesses might appear to be boarded up, vegetation may reclaim buildings, trash may be strewn everywhere, burning tires and barrels of toxic waste may litter the streets. Abandoned cars, buses and even airplanes have known to be damaged and overturned in the streets and on top of buildings. Do not fear! Your safety is our number one concern. Some steadfast businesses will be open for you to get food, beverages, shelter, and provisions. ​ We at the Zombie Defense Initiative will make sure that every citizen is entertained with three stages of live entertainment, bands, food, drinks, vendors, cage matches in the Thunderdome, live graffiti artists, a hookah lounge, costume contest, special guests like MeTV’s SVENGOOLIE and surprises around every corner. ​ To maintain some sort of economic health, we are asking for a nominal entrance fee to Nightmare on Chicago Street. Haunted Corn Maze at Jonamac Orchard

LOCATION:  Jonamac Orchard | 19412 Shabbona Road, Malta


DATE:  Fridays - Saturdays in October from 6:30p to 10:30p

DETAILS:  This season we have to limit the number of guests at one time so you will need to pre-purchase your tickets in advance to be guaranteed entry. A very limited number of walk-up tickets will be available for purchase at the gate each hour at a first come first serve basis. Once our maximum hourly capacity is reached, no other walk-up purchases will be permitted. Recommended for Ages 13 and Up This year, the entire maze will be haunted! Flashlights will not be allowed in the Haunted Corn Maze, only glowsticks or pen lights.

Haunted Forest at Kuiper's Family Farm

DETAILS:  As part of a full day getting a glimpse into life on a farm complete with hayrides, apple cider, and pumpkin picking, stroll through the Haunted Forest at the Kuiper's Family Farm. It will raise the hairs on your neck and a giggle in your throat. This mildly scary and fully fun Haunted Forest is suitable for kids all ages.

Sonny Acres Haunted Barn + Trail

LOCATION: Sonny Acres Farm,  29W310 North Avenue, West Chicago

DATE:  September 29 - October 29, 2023 | 7pm - 10pm

DETAILS:  Our Haunted Barn is a creepy maze with twists and turns and creepy characters (live actors) around every corner. The scene is set in an old abandoned barn themed “The Curse of The Scarecrow”; he’s on the loose inside the barn and out for revenge! The Scarecrow is joined by many of his sinister cohorts and they just can’t wait to meet you! The Haunted Barn is great for kids over 12 & up and any adult who loves a good scare!

Spooky Trail

DETAILS:  Enter if you dare! The haunted trail of West Chicago returns for another weekend full of scare! The trail opens at 7:00pm. Last tickets sold at 9:30pm. Event is outdoors and subject to weather-related conditions

Hayride of Horror/The Curse of the Bayou

LOCATION:  199 E. Woods Drive, Lockport


DATE:  Fridays + Saturdays ONLY, September 29 - October 28, from 7:00p - 10:00p

DETAILS:  Are you one of the brave souls to seek out the underground of Dellwood Park? We dare you to attempt the Curse of the Bayou. Do you carry the still beating heart for which the Voodoo Priestess yearns? The Curse of the Bayou is not recommended for young children.Parental guidance is suggested. This is an outdoor, walking attraction with an uneven trail, tight corners, low ceilings, strobe lighting, fog and loud noises. Food and drinks are available for purchase. This is an outdoor haunt and will close if there is severe weather.

DETAILS:  Join in the fun as the Summer Place Theatre presents its annual Ghost Stories in the Park . . . in the Dark! Enjoy an evening of scary stories sure to send shivers up your spine. This is an outdoor event; please dress warmly and bring blankets and cushions. Not recommended for children under 5. Tickets may be purchased over the phone, online at or during regular business hours at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center or Fort Hill Activity Center. Tickets can be purchased until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6 for the weekend's shows. After that time, tickets must be purchased at the performance.
