Caravan to Candyland

LOCATION:  James O. Breen Community Park

DETAILS:  Get your holiday sweets on the street of treats! In your car, follow the Halloween-themed path for a unique trick-or-treating experience! Escape the Mansion: Director Sven's Theater

LOCATION: Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Rd, Geneva

DATE:  October 14 ,  1pm - 9pm

FEE: $10 residents, $15 non-residents

DETAILS:   Escape the Mansion is an escape room-style event that pits groups of 10 people against the clock to see if they can solve a series of challenges, clues, hidden passwords, and more before time runs out. For one night only, the second floor of the Stephen Persinger Recreation Center is transformed into the fictitious Madam Klara’s Mansion, an estate built in 1799 which has been rumored to be haunted and filled with dark magic. Participants will be given a tour of the mansion, featuring a newly discovered room of the building: Director Sven’s Theater!

Registration opens here on Aug. 8 (NR Aug. 15)! 
Tickets are $10 ($15 NR)
– You must register for a timeslot.
– Max participants per timeslot is 10 people.
– Other groups may register with you for your time slot (up to 10 total per slot).
– Clues are of varying difficulty, recommended for older children and adults, but can be for 6+ with parent help.

Escape Viewing Party
Celebrate your group’s escape (or demise) and watch other groups via livestream at the event’s post-party, located in the Persinger Center’s gymnasium.
– Raffle prizes and games will take place throughout the evening.
– Pizza, soda, and more will be available for purchase!
– Party intended for groups who have participated in the escape room. Those who have yet to participate will not be granted entry in the party until their escape attempt.

A Nightmare at West Main

LOCATION:  West Main Community And Bark Park, 40W101 Main St., Batavia

FEE:  Advanced tickets can be purchased through Oct. 12 for $10 per ticket. Admission is $12 day-of.

DETAILS:  The ghosts are coming out to play in the forest at West Main Community Park. Join us for a haunted hike through our spooky trails. Evil lurks in the forest, so enter if you dare! This event is not suitable for kids younger than 10 years old. Every person needs to be registered.

The Halloween Experience- Drive Thru Spooktacular

Howlin' at the Moon (21+ event)

DETAILS:  Howlin' at the Moon is for adults twenty-one years of age and older only. No one under the age of twenty-one is permitted. IDs will be checked at the entrance.

DETAILS:  Put on your best costumes and enjoy trick or treating at Naper Settlement's historical homes for your Halloween treats, watch the blacksmith at his forge, and more! Children under 18 must attend with an adult. Adults must be accompanying a child.

Calling all kids and their adults! It’s time to show off your Halloween costumes and enjoy a special trick-or-treat experience at the museum’s historical homes. This special afternoon also includes demonstrations by our blacksmith, a Monster Mash Bash dance party, Halloween-themed games, and a costume contest that will give you bragging rights all year! Children under 18 must attend with an adult. Adults must be accompanying a child. While candy supplies last. 

 

The event will also include a family costume contest! Families can win one of three titles: Best Costumes, Best Family Theme, Most Creative Costumes. Costume contest entrants must sign in at the judging station before judging begins promptly at 1:30PM. Winners will be announced at 3PM. You must be present to win.

DETAILS:  Calling ghosts and goblins galore!  Come to the ARC to see what’s in store!  Halloween games and lots of fun treats, this Halloween celebration is sure to be neat! Jump on your broomstick or float like a ghost to the Recreation Center and enjoy a hayride, live entertainment, games, crafts, activities and MORE!!! All children must be registered. Adults are free and must accompany children. Pre-registration closes October 13 at 5:00pm. Walk-up registration $15.

Sycamore Pumpkin Festival

LOCATION:  Downtown Sycamore

DATE: October 25 - 29

DETAILS:   The historic Sycamore Pumpkin Festival takes place on October 25-29. Thousands of pumpkins, all painted or carved for judging, decorate the courthouse lawn, and food vendors dish up pumpkin pie, caramel apples and other fall favorites. The festival has over 1000 entries in the Lions Decorated Pumpkin Display, 2 carnivals, many non-profit vendors including two indoor craft shows, entertainment and various activities, and the Festival concludes with a 90 minute parade on Sunday.

Ghost Story Train

LOCATION: Fox River Trolley Museum, 365 S La Fox St, South Elgin

DATE: Saturday, October 7, 14, 21st, 5:00 pm, 6:15 pm and 7:30 p.m.

DETAILS:  Ride a spooky trolley down to the haunted forest preserve for an evening full of family friendly frights. Listen to spooky chilling stories around the roaring camp fire while enjoying monstrously good treats whipped up by you and Margie's Girls' Kitchen. Join in as our ghostly musician leads everyone in singing campfire songs. Costumes are welcome! This Event is Family Friendly and Suitable for all ages.

Halloween Drive-Around Scavenger Hunt

LOCATION: 100 Parkers Mill, Oswego (Village of Oswego)

 

DATE: October 15th, 12 - 2:30pm

DETAILS:  

CREATE FUN HALLOWEEN MEMORIES WITH YOUR FAMILY!

Household teams will experience what Oswego has to offer, including historical landmarks; Oswego's hidden gems; parks and unique sights throughout the Village. When finished, teams will have 20 great family photos to remember the 2023 Halloween season.

ELIGIBILITY/REGISTRATION INFORMATION

• Teams must consist of family members who reside in the same household (all ages welcome)

• Fee: $20.00 in advance/$25.00 day of

• Net proceeds benefit the Kendall County Food Pantry

• Online registration closes on Oct. 14 at 11:59 pm, 2023. (Applicable online fees apply.)

EVENT DAY INSTRUCTIONS

OPTIONAL:

1. Decorate your vehicle for Halloween.

2. Get dressed in Halloween costumes.

REQUIRED:

1. Bring a fully charged mobile phone with photo and e-mail capabilities.

2. Check in at Oswego Village Hall between 11:00 – 11:45 AM. Upon arrival, provide your first and last name and remain inside your vehicle. A Waiver of Liability and Photo Release are required to be signed by all participants or their parents/legal guardians to participate.

3. Volunteers will direct you to designated parking.

4. The Best Decorated Vehicle Contest will begin promptly at check-in. All teams must be checked-in no later than 11:45 AM to be considered.

5. Clues will be passed out after the instructions have been given. Each team will be assigned the clues to their first three starting locations. The first three clues must be solved in the order given to spread everyone out. After that, clues may be solved in any order.

6. Each team will drive from place to place within the Village to solve the clues. After each clue is solved, each team is required to snap a picture including your team at the applicable location, with the Halloween prop indicated in the clue. Next, it should immediately be texted to the Event Coordinator at 1-833-205-6565. Be sure it includes your assigned team letter and the number of the clue being solved. Example: Team A, Clue 1

7. Drivers must obey the posted speed limits at all times.

PRIZES - Up to $100 in gift certificates will be awarded

1. One prize will be awarded to the first team that successfully completes the Scavenger Hunt, or, in the case the allotted time expires, it will go to the team that solves the most clues by 2:30 p.m.

2. One prize will be awarded for the best decorated Halloween-themed vehicle. Decorations can be cute, scary, or funny but must be “in good taste”. No weapons (real or fake) of any kind, will be allowed. Five extra points will be awarded to teams whose entire team is dressed in Halloween costumes. Judging will take place starting at check-in.

Oswego

Trick-or-Treat At Safety Town in Naperville

LOCATION: Naperville Safety Town, 1320 Aurora Avenue, Naperville

 

DATE: October 21st, 9:30 - 1pm

FEE:  $10 donation per family

DETAILS:  Learn PUMPKINS safe trick or treat tips, and trick or treat on the town! Costumes encouraged, please bring a bag to put all your goodies in! Perfect for children ages 3-12, younger children are welcome to join us as well. We will have activity stations and many local businesses handing out toys, coupons, stickers, candy and more! (We do our best to encourage allergy friendly treats, however some may contain nuts, please ask sponsor if your child has severe allergies)

Cost is $10 donation per family (benefiting Safety Town) and a non perishable food item (benefiting Loaves and Fishes).

Naperville

Trick-or-Treat at Hidden Oaks Nature Center- SOLD OUT

LOCATION: Hidden Oaks Nature Center, 17540 W. Laraway Road, Joliet

 

DATE: October 20th, 6 - 8:30pm

FEE: $5 per kid, must be with an adult

DETAILS: Experience the woods like never before! Come dressed in costume and hike along a glowing night trail. Bring a bag and keep an eye out for hidden treats, but beware of those tricks! Enjoy a crackling fire while roasting hot dogs and marshmallows for s’mores.

The program is not a parking lot trunk or treat; it’s a night hike in the woods.

Two sessions will be offered:

  • Session 1: 6-7 p.m.

  • Session 2: 7:30-8:30 p.m.

The Halloween drive through light show at Goebbert’s Farm in Pingree Grove IL, will run select dates through Tuesday October 31st.

Drive your car through a fun, festive Halloween inspired light show. The dancing of the lights sync up to the music in your car. You will wind your way through the orchard where the holiday lights will be on full display.
